Prevention of Safety Accidents

01Preparation for Forest Fire Accidents

  • Fire is an essential tool for cooking during camping, and campfire is considered romantic, which is how fire relates to camping.
As most campsites are located near forest, it is easy for fire accidents to take place. Therefore, campers and campsite administrators should manage this matter thoroughly all throughout the year.
For prevention of forest fire accidents, especially in winter, you should be careful when using braziers. Drench the ground near the places where the braziers are installed with water to prevent fire accidents caused by sparks.
In addition, try to choose tents made of flame retardant or incombustible materials in order to lessen casualties caused by fire accidents.

02Preparation for Accidents Caused by Vermin, Snakes or Wild Animals

  • You should dispose leftovers or food waste completely before you go to bed at campsites. Food left over at campsites attracts wild animals, which might lead to a very dangerous situation caused by wild animals.
You can effectively prevent snakes from coming if you spread alum powder or cigarette powder around your tents. Use dedicated wire holes or place wire holes in high places in order to prevent vermin from coming through the wire holes of the inner tents.

03Preparation for Accidents Caused by Wind or Lightning

  • If you love camping, you must have experienced camping in various weather conditions. Rain and wind are most common. You might prepare for various weather conditions in various ways according to your experiences.
However, there are no tents or tarp that can endure strong wind or a gust of wind. Therefore, you should dismantle tents and tarp or evacuate to administration buildings at campsites.
In addition, carbon materials used for poles of tents are metal with high conductivity when exposed to lightning. You should evacuate to the inside of some building if lightning strikes.

04Preparation for Drowning Accidents

  • Wear a life vest when going into water. Kids need supervision when they play in rivers or water in valleys.
Drowning accidents often take place in summer and in water in valleys or rivers with sudden deep geographical features. You might be swept away by a rapid torrent when it showers so you should not play in water when it showers.

05Preparation for Accidents Caused by the Heat

  • Tarp is essential for camping because it provides shade and shelters you from rain in summer. You can get sun stroke if you are exposed to the sun for a long time.
If you sweat a lot, you should take some salt. Wearing a hat is one of the ways to avoid sun stroke.
Environmental and Sanitation Safety

You use campsites together with other people so you should be more careful about sanitation safety.

  • Rest rooms in campsites should be clean and properly maintained. Cooking facilities such as sinks should be regularly disinfected and sterilized.
You should choose campsites with announced test reports of their drinking water.
  • Waste at campsites should be separately disposed and collected for recycling. Spilt cooking oil or wastewater can cause pollution or vermination so you should be careful not to spill them.
  • Campsite managers and administrators should not use harmful materials for campsite facilities. Especially, use of aggregate including recycled aggregate such as waste aggregate is strictly prohibited by the law.
Safe Winterization

When you go camping in winter, you should be careful about installation and maintenance of equipment and tents for ice and low temperature.

  • Wear warm and functional clothes instead of fashionable clothes in order to prepare for accidents caused by frostbite.
Help your kids wear clothes properly for maintenance of body temperature. If you get frostbite, immerse your feet in hot water with the temperature between 38 celsius degree and 42 celsius degree for 20 minutes to 40 minutes. Be careful because it is not good to let the frostbitten area touch something hot directly.
If you have scabs and blisters, please administer first aid with something like sterilized gauze and go to hospital immediately.
  • If you are camping in tents, it is important to use some paper boxes or plastic on the ground to block the chill.
It is better to use camping beds than to sleep close to the ground.
  • It is not good to touch equipment with bare hands for a long time when preparing for camping.
Keep your clothes, socks and shoes dry and if they are wet, change them.
  • Check if ice is more than 20cm thick for safety.
Check this for your safety before you enjoy playing on the ice.
  • Do not use combustion heaters in tents. Take good care of ventilation especially when you are sleeping if it is inevitable to use them.
Try not to use heaters if you can and use electric blankets or heating pads instead.
  • Do not use sky lanterns near forest.
Fireworks should not be used toward people or tents and they should be used near water such as river.
  • When it snows, the weight of snow laid on the roof can collapse your tents so remove snow frequently.
  • Drive safely when it snows or if the road is frozen.
Terms of Camping Equipment
Terms of Camping Equipment

01Tents

  • Tents are as good as houses at campsites.
They are made of cloth. There are various tents by size.
They are divided into small tents in which you just sleep and large tents where there are living rooms or kitchens.

02Tarp

  • A tarp functions as the roof at campsites.
It protects you from sun rays, rain and dew.
It can protect you from wind according to how you install it.
It is an essential equipment especially in summer at campsites where there are no shades.

03Pegs

  • Pegs fix tents and tarp to the ground.
When you buy tents and tarp, pegs are enclosed in the packages as components.
Sometimes you need to have longer or shorter pegs according to the conditions of campsites and the weather.

04Lanterns

  • Lanterns brighten up dark campsites.
There are a lot of types according to their fuel.
They fall into the category of basic camping equipment.

05Burners

  • Burners are cooking tools.
Butane gas is most commonly used for their fuel but gasoline and petroleum are also used.

06Potable pots and pans

  • Potable pots and pans are used for cooking at campsites.
They are usually made of light aluminum materials or strong stainless steel materials.

07Sleeping bags

  • Sleeping bags help you keep your body temperature warm when you sleep at campsites (as a substitute for blankets).
They look like sacks and they have zippers on one side to open or close them.
Their filling materials are of cotton or feathers of birds.
They are divided into sleeping bags for each season according to the amount of filling materials.

08Tables & Chairs

  • These tables and chairs are suitable for camping because they are portable and light.
Since auto camping became popular, campers do not use mats very often but they use table and chairs a lot instead.

09Braziers

  • They are folding braziers with which you can enjoy campfire at campsites. You can have a barbecue.

10Lantern Tripods & Pile Drivers

  • Lantern tripods and pile drivers are used when you want to put lanterns in high places.
These kinds of auxiliary equipment are divided into lantern tripods and pile drivers according to how you fix lanterns to them.
